2019 BCCA National Meeting, held at the 2019 VHRR Philip Island Classic

Welcome to the Bolwell Car Club!

State BCCA Clubs are dedicated to the maintenance, preservation and enjoyment of the BOLWELL marque.

We are a small group of enthusiasts who currently own, have owned, would like to own or in the process of rebuilding a Bolwell sports car. Clubs are located in New South WalesSouth AustraliaVictoria and Western Australia but you will find Bolwell enthusiasts all over Australia.

Bolwell cars:
Bolwell vehicles were manufactured in Melbourne mostly during the 1960s and 70s, with a small number built in the 80s. More recently, low volume new models were released in 2008 & 2019. Built of fibreglass, their power to weight ratio is amazing. As only approximately 700 were built, the Bolwell is considered to be one of the rarest sports cars in the world today.

Bolwell Car Club of Australia:
The Bolwell Car Club of Australia (BCCA) is one of Australia’s oldest one-marque sports car clubs. The original club was founded in Victoria in 1968 on the initiative of Mr A W (Bill) Griffiths who invited known owners of Bolwells to attend an initial get-together at his home in Ivanhoe, Melbourne. The Victorian group quickly formed into BCCA (Vic), elected a Committee, became affiliated with CAMS and soon began competing in motorsport events such as the then annual 6-hour races at Winton and at Hillclimbs including Lakeland and Morwell. Initially, Bolwell owners in NSW, SA, Q’ld and Tas joined the new club in Victoria but as the number of cars grew in NSW, SA and WA, clubs in those states were formed .

Interstate gatherings of Bolwell enthusiasts:
In the early 1970s, some of the Victorian club’s first members visited the Sydney and Adelaide owners to enjoy the camaraderie natural among Bolwell enthusiasts, discuss the challenges facing car builders and lay the foundation for interstate friendships. During this same period, BCCA (Vic) became a founding member club of the Marque Sports Car Association (MSCA).

BCCA enjoys strong support from the Bolwell Corporation who usually host a special meeting at their factory once each year.

For many more recent years, Bolwell Club members from Victoria, NSW, SA and WA and including Bolwell owners from other states (and from New Zealand one year!) have met at various locations across Australia usually at Easter time to enjoy a well organized social gathering with motoring events, concours, dinners, etc. These annual National meetings provide ample evidence of the many magnificent Bolwells owned by club members, from Mark 4 to Ikara. Many owners have made life-long friends through membership of BCCA.

Newsletters for BCCA members:
The BCCA’s newsletter, “Slipstream”, initially commenced as a newsletter in May, 1968; the first known edition that included the title of “Slipstream” is August, 1968 and each BCCA State still produces its own regular editions to this day.
